SunFarmer raised over $100,000 to fund its relief efforts. All contributions were used to donate solar energy systems to reconstructed health clinics across Nepal. See below for images, stories, and information on how SunFarmer responded to the crisis.
In 2016 we installed donated solar energy systems for health clinics and schools near the earthquake's epicenter.
The political turmoil and fuel shortages in Nepal delayed our efforts, but we eagerly awaited the arrival of 220 SunEdison solar panels when the Indian border reopened.
100% of donations to the Nepal Relief and Reconstruction Fund went directly towards free solar lights and electricity generation systems for impacted households, community shelters, and medical relief teams.
A few principles we promised to follow:
Coordinate with trusted partners: We worked closely with trusted local partners like ActionAid and Practical Action to identify places where impact will be greatest and to ensure that efforts are not duplicated.
Appropriate technology: We assessed the demand and made sure that we provided services that were actually needed
Accountability: We tracked donated equipment to ensure that it ended up with the intended recipients, where it provided long-term impact
Transparency: We made sure you knew exactly where your dollars were going
